At the July membership meeting of the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad, Wayne Rouse, President, and Marv Pixton, Historian of the Sons of the American Revolution honored Jim Smith with EMS Provider of the Year Award from the Colonel Fielding Lewis Chapter. This award is presented annually to Emergency Medical Service providers for their hard work and dedication to "the preservation of health in emergency situations." Mr. Smith is a Paramedic and Life Member of the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad. He has been with the Squad since 1989 and served as Rescue Chief and President, as well as several other operational and administrative positions over the years. He has been a preceptor for the Squad and Rappahannock EMS Council for new medics. Mr. Smith served for many years on the Fire and Rescue Commission for Stafford County.
