October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
“Far too many women, 1 in 8 to be precise, are diagnosed with breast cancer. Thanks to earlier detection – through screening and increased awareness – and better treatments, a woman’s risk of dying from breast cancer has dropped almost 40 percent between 1989 and 2015, saving 322,000 lives.”
This statistic is from the Women’s Health Network. I am one of those eight. After surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment I celebrated 8 years remission this summer. Stafford County Fire and Rescue will be wearing pink shirts this month to remind the community of this dreadful disease. As with any disease early awareness, testing, mammograms are essential for a good outcome. Talk to your doctor.
Squad news: Congratulations to Baileigh McBride who passed the National Registry EMT exam. Baileigh is a junior in high school and spent over 200 hours running emergency calls on the ambulance this summer. How did you spend your summer vacation?
Our Treasurer/Admin Lt. Jeff Walker completed and passed testing for Advanced EMT(A-EMT) this summer. Jeff completed the 6 week course while working full-time and keeping up with he duties as a squad officer. Hats off to both of them!
Squad members have been increasing the number of hours served July was over 1800 hours and August went over 2000. Great job! Great Teamwork!
