At the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad's Annual Installation of Officers and Recognition Banquet on November 7th, Patti Schmidt and Mike Schaefer were presented with Life Member honors by the Squad. Ms. Schmidt is an EMT-Intermediate and has volunteered with the Squad for over 11 years. She has served as Recording Secretary, Admin Lt, Rescue Chief and on the Board of Directors. Besides staffing an ambulance and responding to emergency 911 calls, Ms. Schmidt is also active with the Squad's community safety programs. Mike Schaefer, a retired Marine Corps Lt. Colonel, has volunteered with the Aquia Squad for over ten years. He is trained in CPR and as an Emergency Vehicle Operator. Mr. Schaefer is very active in the Squad's programs for the youth in the community assisting with first aid and bicycle safety. For the past five years he has helped fit free bike helmets on over 1000 children. He has also served as Treasurer and on the Board of Directors. The Squad was celebrating 20 years of volunteer service to the Stafford community. The new officers for 2009-2010 are President- Jim Smith, Vice-President -Jayne Toellner, Recording Secretary-Chris Schoon, Treasurer-Bob Holcombe, Membership Secretary-Angela Wilhelm, Historian-Janis Holcombe, Rescue Chief-Patricia Copeland, and Lts. Dave Couch, Lynn Platt, Shannon Grimes and Andrew Niemann. At-Large Board of Directors: Howard Rose, Emmett Price and Mike Toellner.
