SNOW! SNOW! SNOW! And the news says more is on the way. What a winter this has been, but the ambulances have stayed staffed delivering care to the community. With volunteer EMS providers on the ambulance, career fire crews, and National Guard in the Hummers, Stafford County residents were assured of emergency care in answer to their 911 calls. On many incidents the ambulance remained on a main road while the humvees continued to the resident's home to pick up the patient. The humvee crew would assess and then bring the patient out to the ambulance and then transported to the hospital. While not responding to calls, our crews were busy digging out just like everyone else. On the first night of the storm our ambulance responded 32 calls. It was a busy night for all units in the County. Many of the volunteers ran 2 or more 8-10 hour shifts during the emergency. After completing their shifts they went home to dig out.
