Sponsored by the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad in coordination with the Stafford County Sheriff's Department, and supported by area organizations and businesses, the "Annual National Night Out" (NNO) celebrated another successful year in Stafford County on Tuesday, August 4, at Stafford Marketplace.
Last year more than 1200 people attended this event and Stafford County was recognized for placing 18th in the nation in the 100,000 to 299,000 population category. This year saw even greater attendance with local citizens coming out to see and explore and speak with personnel at displays that included local fire and rescue apparatus, Sherriff's deputies, a mobile command unit, Mac Gruff the Crime Dog, a Med-Evac helicopter, local radio stations, the local Corvette club, Military displays and demonstrations, businesses and civic groups. The Aquia Harbour Rescue Squad also once again fitted and provided free bicycle helmets for children.
Pictures from the event can be found in the galleries section of the website.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to: * Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; * Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; * Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and * Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
